FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR the 2020 ECKHARDT-GRAMATTE NATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION

Those six finalists are: Jillian Bonner of Saint John, N.B., Jayne Hammond of Winnipeg, Rebecca Gray of Toronto, Virginie Mongeau of Montreal, Brittany Rae of Montreal and Jennifer Routhier of Toronto.

The competition is on a three-year cycle, focusing on a different instrument each year. This year’s instrument is voice. In 2021, stringed instruments will be featured while piano will be the focus in 2022.

From April 17-19, the finalists will gather in Brandon for live recitals at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at the Brandon University School of Music to determine the winner.

The twelve musicians will be performing at Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall on Feburary 15th for the opportunity to sing with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in the finals in April.

The finalists will be hosted by the Opéra de Montréal from November 10 to 13 and heard on-stage in Salle Wilfrid Pelletier during the Talent Gala.

It's a beloved summer tradition at CBC Music: our classical "30 under 30" list, celebrating the accomplishments of Canada's hottest young classical musicians. Last year, Canadians cleaned up at some of the world's biggest international classical music competitions. This year's inductees into CBC Music's classical "30 under 30" community are continuing that winning trend. Without exception, all of them told us that they wouldn't be where they are today without the unconditional support of their parents. So, this year we dedicate our classical "30 under 30" list to these unsung heroes who invest time and money to help their children be their best selves and reach their goals. Shift - NB with Vanessa Vander Valk - Aug. 7, 2019: CBC Music just published its annual list of 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30, and Jillian Bonner is on it. She is a mezzo-soprano from Saint John, who will make her debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra next January.

Ever go to a performance where it’s all sizzle and no substance? Where the production put so much effort into special effects that it overshadows what was most important?

Not a problem when you see Calgary Opera’s production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Indeed, less is definitely more, especially with a talented sextet of Emerging Artists.

Canadian Mezzo-Soprano, Jillian Bonner wins the 2018 St. Andrews International Aria Competition
The St. Andrews Arts Council, Inc. has announced the winner of the 2018 St. Andrews International Aria Competition as Canadian mezzo-soprano, Jillian Bonner. Ms. Bonner will be soloing with the St. Andrews Festival Orchestra, Hok Kwan conductor on August 8, 2018 in St. Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick, Canada.
